Six Month Smiles

SIX MONTH SMILES, AN ORTHODONTIC TREATMENT, CAN HELP MOVE YOUR TEETH INTO THE PROPER POSITION IN LESS TIME THAN TRADITIONAL BRACES.

Six Month Smiles is an orthodontic treatment that uses clear brackets and tooth-colored wires to help move a patient’s teeth into their proper position. While traditional braces may take years to achieve proper placement, Six Month Smiles, on average, takes only six months of treatment.

If you are interested in Six Month Smiles or your dentist offers this treatment, here is what the average procedure looks like.

Step 1: Impressions of Teeth

To begin, your dentist will take impressions of your teeth. These impressions will be sent to a lab where the brackets will be created to accurately fit your teeth and move them into the proper position.

Step 2: Placing the Brackets

When your dentist receives the brackets, you will go back to be fitted. The brackets are placed on your teeth using a tray that puts the brackets exactly where they need to be. The brackets contain an adhesive that will bond them to your teeth. You will also receive arch wires that are similar in color to your teeth.

Step 3: Follow-Up Appointments

You will then schedule regular dental visits, about every 5-6 weeks, so your dentist can adjust the wires and ensure your teeth are moving into the proper position.

Your treatment will vary based on your specific needs, but, as you can probably determine by the name, the average length of treatment lasts about 6 months. Be sure to discuss proper dental hygiene with your dentist to keep your mouth healthy and the brackets in good shape during this treatment.

Ceramic Braces

What Are Ceramic Braces? Ceramic braces are a type of orthodontic appliance used to straighten teeth. They work much like traditional braces but use brackets made from clear or tooth-colored ceramic (porcelain) instead of metal. An archwire threaded through these brackets applies gentle, constant pressure to shift teeth into the desired position over time. Because the brackets and often the ties are designed to blend with your enamel, ceramic braces are sometimes called “clear braces” or “tooth-colored braces” – they are far less noticeable than shiny metal brackets. They can treat a wide range of alignment issues (crooked teeth,

Retainers

What Are Orthodontic Retainers? Orthodontic retainers are custom-made devices designed to hold your teeth in their new positions after braces or clear aligners. When your orthodontic treatment is finished and the braces come off (or you finish your aligner series), a retainer is made specifically for your mouth. It fits snugly over or behind your teeth to keep them aligned. In essence, retainers ensure that all the hard work of straightening your teeth isn’t undone – they “retain” your smile’s new alignment. Retainers can be made of plastic, acrylic, and/or thin metal wires, depending on the type. Each retainer
